South African War Monument – Cardiff City Hall

Years of city grime and erosion had taken their toll on the original hand carved inscriptions on all the faces of this Portland Stone monument.

The perished faces were carefully cut out from the main monument. New, matching Portland pieces, painstakingly re-engraved with approximately 18,000 letters to replicate the exact original lettering styles and inscriptions, were inserted to restore this vital historic information to one of the Country’s most significant monuments.
