On March 23rd, 2022, Havering Council officially opened the Covid-19 Memorial Woodland in Hornchurch Country Park, London Borough of Havering, to honour and commemorate lost loved ones.

Mossfords Memorial Masons are immensely proud to have played a significant part as our collective team of highly skilled hand engravers, carvers, sawing technicians, memorial fixers and project managers helped craft and install the stone centrepiece that is displayed at the Central Memorial section of the Memorial Woodland.

In total, the memorial centrepiece involved 6 months of design and planning, 6 weeks of craftsmanship, and 2 weeks for our team to safely carry out the memorial installation.

The stone memorial, which is crafted from stunning Woodkirk Sandstone and weighs in at 2.8 tons, is surrounded by over 4000 trees.

Memorial Woodland Plans Were Supported by Local Residents

Back in the summer of 2021, Havering Council launched a survey among its residents to ask their opinions on plans to create a Covid Memorial Woodland within the grounds of the popular Hornchurch Country Park.

The vast majority of residents showed strong support for the plans, with the council committing to ensure the project enhances the biodiversity of the larger park setting and that the necessary space for trees and wildlife to flourish was provided.
