A BEAUTIFUL DAY AT THE MEMORIAL GARDEN
Exceptional Stone Renovation.
In 2019, Mossfords Memorial Masons were commissioned by the Aberfan Memorial Charity to entirely renovate all stonework at the Aberfan Memorial Garden. All existing stone was meticulously removed and replaced with locally sourced Pennant stone that displays beautiful colours in all weather.
September 2024 saw the completion of new resin pathways throughout by Element who were selected to provide a visually stunning, uniform, seamless appearance to the original concrete paved pathways.

See here that the new resin pathway has the advantage of being wheel-chair friendly, low maintenance, weed-resistant, providing a seamlessly finished appearance.
It is also a water-permeable surface to help prevent pooling as it enhances water-drain-away – with it being SUD Compliant (Sustainable Urban Drainage) to helps reduce flood risk.

THE BEAUTIFUL STONE WALLS AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE GARDEN
“The Aberfan Memorial Garden stands on the site of the former Pantglas Junior School and commemorates the 116 children and 28 adults who died in the Aberfan Disaster of 21 October 1966.
The Garden is of huge importance to the bereaved parents, sibling next of kin, survivors and the whole community, as well as the thousands of visitors who come to pay their respects every year from around the world.
It is the Trustees’ aim always to maintain the Garden to the highest possible standards.
When we were planning the major renovations there, it was vital that Trustees had confidence of achieving an outcome of the highest quality, on time and on budget.
Trustees are highly delighted with the transformation now achieved at the Memorial Garden, and to universal acclaim from the local community and beyond.
We cannot praise too highly the workmanship and professionalism of the large team of craftsmen who carried out the work with such respect and dedication.
Even when unexpected challenges arose, these were dealt with calmly and without impacting adversely on the overall timescale.
To all those involved, we extend our heartfelt thanks. The spectacular result will stand as testimony to their skill and professionalism for generations to come.”
