THORNHILL CEMETERY & CREMATORIUM, CARDIFF

Thornhill Cemetery and Crematorium is based in the Thornhill area of Cardiff, South Wales. The Cemetery was originally opened in August 1952, and the Crematorium was opened the following year, occupying a 40-acre site within the cemetery.

Thornhill cemetery contains two chapels – Wenallt Chapel and Briwnant Chapel – and has eight Gardens of Remembrance for scattering cremated remains. It was extended in 2010 and will be extended further in 2021 with the introduction of a new burial ground. This will provide burial space for a further 35-40 years.

It is one of the largest cemeteries in Cardiff, and currently holds over 3000 cremations and 700 burials each year. Thornhill Cemetery and Crematorium was named Cemetery of the Year in both 2019 and 2020 by the Memorial Awareness Board.

Thornhill Cemetery has Lawn, Traditional & Cremated Remains sections. Memorial dimensions are shown in terms of height, width and thickness (front to back).

Please Note: On all Traditional Sections – may require kerbs or edgings to be fixed depending on the headstone required.

All memorials must be erected to meet the standards set by the National Association of Memorial Masons (NAMM) and fixed by a memorial mason who is registered with the British Register of Approved Memorial Masons (BRAMM)  www.bramm-uk.org

Ground anchor must be used on all memorials over 625mm in height
