WATERSPORTS CENTRE, PORTHCAWL
WILLIAMSTRIP CHAPEL
CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

ABOVE: The Watersports Centre in Rest Bay, Porthcawl is a state-of-the-art, fully equipped facility that caters to a vast array of activities for the local community and beyond.
Overlooking the sweeping sands of Rest Bay in Porthcawl, a striking watersports centre stands as a beacon of modern coastal design and Welsh craftsmanship. Mossfords Memorial Masons’ construction division played a pivotal role in its creation, providing the expertly crafted stone cladding that gives the building its distinctive character and strength.
Combining traditional masonry skills with contemporary architectural vision, Mossfords have helped shape a landmark that celebrates both the spirit of the sea and the enduring beauty of natural stone.

ABOVE: A high-level of intricacy was required to create the all-natural stone cladding for the centre’s walls.
Mossfords’ construction division was contracted by Henstaff Construction Ltd to provide stonemasonry for the building of a new watersports centre in Porthcawl’s Rest Bay. The new centre was built from scratch in the popular Rest Bay area, designed to provide much-needed facilities to the many surfers, kayakers, canoeists and paddleboarders that frequent the beach.
The spacious complex is built with two stories and includes facilities such as changing areas, toilets and showers. After our part of the project was complete, plans were put in place for a café/bistro to open on the ground floor.
BELOW: It was paramount that the stone and mortar was kept pristine throughout the project and so was protected at all times.

The modern building was designed with many glass openings in the form of large windows and doors. Our team of stonework experts were asked to assist with the building of the structures in between each opening of the complex.
We did this by cladding the concrete blockwork with natural stone right the way around the building and on the exterior bin store. Our stonemasons used Blue Lias limestone for this exciting project.
This project was completed in July 2019 and the watersports complex was officially opened on the 11th October 2019.
BELOW: The cladding transformed the look of the building even in an incomplete state.
